Online shopping for any thing has increased quite dramatically over the last 3 years or so. At first it was a Brave, New World kind of a thing: people were generally scared to trade over the internet. I used to work at the Bank many moons ago and I recall how some people were even questioning the need for an internet banking profile! Some of the older folk didn’t even trust the ATM’s, how the heck could we expect them to be making transfers and transactions over the World Wide Web?
As with all things in SA, its the really the constant progression of technology and its assimilation into everyday life that has made people more at ease with spending copious amounts of credit card money over the net. We spend forever on our phones and laptops.. why not do the shopping there too? It just makes sense. My friend Jarryd and his cousins live alone for most months of the year – All the parents are working elsewhere in the country. For them, it’s a necessity to do all their shopping online. Surely then, its the convenience of shopping online that gets more and more people involved.
